ANTALYA, TURKEY, October 8, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The International Space University (ISU) announced today that Strasbourg, France, will become the exclusive European hub of ISU’s global campus network. The announcement also confirmed that Strasbourg will be the host city for ISU’s 2029 Space Studies Program (SSP29), celebrating the 40th anniversary of ISU’s 1989 SSP hosted by the University of Strasbourg (Unistra). The announcements were made during the 2026 International Astronautical Congress, taking place this week in Antalya, Türkiye.

ISU’s Global Campus Initiative is a continuation of the institution's founding ambition to create an expanding base of campus facilities, networks and affiliations both on and off the Earth, toward ISU’s vision of a peaceful, prosperous and boundless future through the study, exploration and development of Space for the benefit of all humanity. Since its founding in 1987, ISU has graduated over 6,000 alumni from over 115 countries, many of whom have become leaders of the world’s space programs in government and in the private sectors. ISU announced its Global Campus Initiative on 04 October 2026, and today's announcement establishes Strasbourg as the first official hub of ISU's planned worldwide network of campus affiliates, facilities and programs.

International Space University is entering into a long-term agreement with the University of Strasbourg to be the primary academic partner of the Strasbourg-based European hub developing and hosting international programs with European partnering Universities and in collaboration with ISU. The agreement also brings in Mines Nancy as an academic affiliate and anticipates the development of graduate level Masters and other advanced programs. With a constellation of European partners, the University of Strasbourg and Mines Nancy intend to build academic programs and activities consistent with the ambitions of the ISU’s founding vision and its Global Campus Initiative.

“Strasbourg has been a dedicated and catalytic partner of International Space University for decades,” said ISU Founder and Director, Bob Richards. “We are thrilled that this legacy continues with the University of Strasbourg taking a leading role in the establishment of the European hub of ISU’s global campus network.”

“Unistra established a strong partnership with ISU in 1989,” said Patrick Llerena, Professor at the University of Strasbourg. “Our ambition is to develop specific European programs, especially in the area of ‘New Space for Society’, with our European partners, from Master courses to short modules, and the already existing incubator.”

“Mines Nancy is proud to join the European hub of ISU’s Global Campus to bring its deeptech spirit and vision, extending collaborations between the University of Lorraine and Unistra,” said François Alter, Director General of Mines Nancy.

While ISU builds out its global campus network, it will continue its flagship annual Space Studies Program (SSP) and other shorter professional programs. Last month, ISU announced the University of Central Florida (UCF) will host its 38th Space Studies Program from June 21st to August 13th, 2027 at its Rosen College of Hospitality Management, highlighted by the vibrant Central Florida commercial space ecosystem and the proximity of NASA’s John F. Kennedy Space Center.
